“BLACK DIAMOND BEEMERS” OF NORTHEAST PA.
Report of the “Rally IN THE POCONOS”, SEPTEMBER 26TH, 27TH, AND 28TH, 2008
Nestled in the northern Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania near the town of “Lookout” is the small picturesque “Indian Head Lake”. Its shores are largely un-inhabited except for the “Indian Head Camp”. The camp with its rustic pavilions, a huge dining hall, and more than thirty cabins dot the shore line of this pristine secluded area. This could possibly be one of the best places to have a gathering of motorcyclists for a long weekend. Activities that abound on the lake such as canoeing, kayaking, and hiking the trails, are coupled with the thousands of miles of great riding in both the Pocono Mountains and the neighboring Catskill Mountains.
The program for the weekend included guided tours for morning and afternoon rides as well as all day excursions. Numerous “self guided”
route sheets were provided for those wishing to ride alone. The event was attended by single riders and couples. “Private Cabins” were available. It is an event for everyone. You could go riding while your significant other lounges on the dock with a good book and a cold beverage.
Meals are also a highlight with a light dinner Friday night, breakfast, lunch and dinner Saturday, and a departing breakfast Sunday morning. A variety of food is prepared on site with the quality that rivals many fine restaurants. Alcoholic beverages are “B.Y.O.” with soda and juices provided.
Entertainment each night included movies and bon fires. A brief presentation from Edelweiss Tours was presented to those interested in foreign adventuring. Numerous door prizes were presented and nearly everyone took home a “memento”, compliments of the many contributors to the event. Awards were presented Saturday night to the entrants of the various contests such as longest distance rider, oldest, youngest, oldest bike, most attending from a club, and highest mileage bike, and a few others.
This was the fourth year the “Black Diamond Beemers” have presented this event and the response has been growing steadily. The organization that is needed to put on an event like this is tremendous. “Kudos”, (or something of higher value), is in order to those that spent numerous hours to see that every detail for the weekend was covered. This year there were over 220 participants, with 186 pre-registering. With the limit of 300 entries, pre-registering for 2009 is certainly advised.
If you’re looking to attend a long weekend event in the Northeast, this is one to put on the calendar. It is situated only a short ride from many metropolitan areas. There were riders from 15 states and Canada on 11 different brands of bikes, making the atmosphere both friendly and fun. Having 5 meals provided, a roof over your head, parking outside your door, and the opportunity to “sit back and chill”
or “ride all day”, was well worth the $65 admission.
